    Professional Home Maintenance Tips

In addition to providing timely repairs, emergency service, and quality installations, Bell Cow Service Company wants to help you keep your home functioning at its best, year-round. By caring for your home’s many HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems regularly, you can help those products last longer and work more reliably for your family.

Keep in mind that although every homeowner plays a part in the maintenance of their own home, there is no replacement for professional expertise. If you suspect an issue and are unsure of what to do, call Bell Cow for immediate help at (844) 234-2355.

For those looking to simply take better care of their home and extend the life of expensive appliances or other systems, consider the following home maintenance tips:

    1. Examine your HVAC filters.

Filters should be changed every 1-2 months for best air quality. Depending on your home’s HVAC system, the filter may be located in a slot above, below, or to the side of the unit. Call Bell Cow for an HVAC inspection if you would like assistance.

    2. Set air conditioner settings to “Cool” and “Auto.”

Most of today’s thermostats allow you to set a temperature and let the cooling system calibrate on its own. Repeatedly adjusting your temperature level manually is inefficient and will not keep your home at a consistent, cool temperature.

    3. Make sure your heat pump is 4-8 inches above the ground.

This will allow for proper drainage and prevent potential water damage within your home. If you notice your heat pump is draining improperly, call Bell Cow for HVAC repair service.

    4. Check for gaps in windows or between doors and door frames.

In preparation of a season change, making sure your home’s windows and doors are sealed tight is important to avoid energy loss.

    5. Test all toilets, sinks, drains, and check plumbing underneath.

Even if you rarely use a sink in a guest room, check to make sure there are no leaks in the plumbing underneath. When plumbing sits without being used for long periods of time, it can become weak and vulnerable to cracking.

Homeowners can take plenty of steps to ensure that their home is efficient, safe, and working properly. Every season presents new challenges—as we know, weather in North Carolina and Virginia can change in an instant. With Bell Cow, you are prepared for everything and supported by a team you can depend on.
